Each player will also be participating in an Omaha Hold ‘Em poker game.
Omaha Hold ‘Em is traditionally played with 4 hole cards and 5 community cards. You need to make your best 5 card poker hand using EXACTLY 2 hole cards and 3 of the community cards. You cannot use less than 2 hole cards and you cannot use more than 2 hole cards. Each player will receive 2 hole cards just for being a participant in this year’s Flat Tire Open tournament. You will also have a chance to earn and/or purchase additional hole cards on the golf course.
How to obtain hole cards:
Each player will receive 2 hole cards at the registration table at the time of check-in. Again, you only need 2 hole cards to win, but the more hole cards you have will only increase your chances of having the winning poker hand.
You can also earn 1 additional hole cards on golf holes #10 and #17.
Example 1:
Prior to taking their tee shot a player can pay $5.00 to the volunteer monitoring the golf hole for a chance to earn 1 additional hole card. If their tee shot comes to rest on the green they will then be awarded 1 additional hole card.
Example 2:
If a player’s tee shot does not come to rest on the green or if they choose not to participate in example 1, they have the option to purchase 1 additional hole card for $5.00 from the volunteer monitoring the golf hole.
Example 3:
If a player’s tee shot successfully comes to rest on the green they still have the option of purchasing 1 additional hole card for $5.00 from the volunteer monitoring the golf hole, thus obtaining 2 hole cards on that one golf hole.
Summary:
Each player automatically receives 2 hole cards when they check in. Each player has the chance to win and/or purchase additional hole cards on the golf course.
How Omaha Hold ‘Em is played:
Each player MUST use exactly 2 hole cards along with the 5 community cards to make their best 5 card poker hand. Just like traditional Omaha Hold ‘Em cards read. If a player misreads their hand, but has the best poker hand, they win!
We will use a minimum of 8 decks of cards and a maximum of 12 decks of cards depending on how many golfers actually sign up for the event. I will have all the decks of cards shuffled/mixed up at the registration desk. Each player will select their 2 hole cards. I will then put their name and my name on the cards they have selected to avoid any “confusion” of who has what cards. At the end of registration the remaining cards will go to hole no’s. 10 and 17.
As was done last year, the person running the Omaha game, in an attempt to make things easier, will announce which cards a player needs to be holding in order to have the best possible poker hand. This is meant to be fun and you don’t have to know anything about poker to win!!!
The following is a ranking of poker hands from worst to best:
Note:
In the event of a tie, the players involved with the tie will draw one card as a tie-breaker. In this particular case the suit of the card DOES matter. The ranking of suits from best to worst is: Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs.
